Don’t miss this! BETTER than Black Friday…

Black Friday is just around the corner, but we think one of the best sales around is happening NOW (& will be over before Black Friday hits, FYI)!

Did you know? A few years back, REI famously decided to close their retail stores on Black Friday to encourage people to get outside (rather than standing in lines!). Love that!

But that doesn’t mean you can’t find deals this time of year. You just have to shop EARLIER. Aka now!

REI Co-op's Winter Sale details:

  • Sale dates: November 15 - 25, 2024
  • Discounts: Up to 40% off

👇🏼 We’ve rounded up what we personally think are the BEST deals right now to help you narrow it down:

1. REI Co-op brand 650 down jackets

  • 40% off

This might just be our top pick for this sale!

🔥 I have a feeling the popular colors and sizes will go fast because it's truly such a good deal.

Everyone could use a good down jacket 😃 The quality of this jacket for the price during this sale is truly unbeatable.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I bought this same jacket last winter and wore it nearly every day. I just got Ben the men's version this year!

2. Danner hiking boots

  • 25% off

I've tried a LOT of hiking boots over the years and these are hands-down my favorite. I just bought Ben the men's version since they're a great price right now!

Waterproof, super comfy (I needed zero break-in time), and amazing grip, they are truly incredible 👏🏼 If you're looking for a good pair of hiking boots, look no further.

Don't just take my word for it. The last time these were on sale I shared about them and got a bunch of messages thanking me for the rec:

Word of warning: Last time these were on sale, they sold out of some popular sizes before the sale was over, so if you're thinking about getting them don't wait too long.

3. Smartwool base layer

  • 25% off (all Smartwool products are on sale!)

If you've never worn a wool base layer, I promise it will change your life (especially if you live in a place with cold winters).

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I bought this base layer last year and was blown away by how warm it kept me during any and all winter activities.

I wore it snowboarding, snowshoeing, winter hiking – basically any time I went outside for an extended period of time, I reached for this. So I knew as soon as a sale hit, it was time to get another to add to my repertoire! I just got the eggplant color and love it.

I recently bought the men’s version for Ben and am really excited to see how he likes it for winter activities. He already wore it on a fall hike and he’s sold, but the real magic is when the temps dip below freezing!

👯‍♀️ Are you seeing a pattern of me buying the clothes then getting Ben the same thing?! We now have the same base layer, down jackets, and hiking boots haha! They’re too good not to share the love.

4. Osprey Poco child carriers (for hiking)

  • 29% off + additional 20% off if you're a Co-op member

If you have a little one (or are expecting!), this makes an excellent purchase right now.

Option a) 🔥 They just released a new version of the Poco LT, so the original is on a major sale right now. Plus, if you're an REI Co-op Member, you get an additional 20% off the already discounted price.

Holy moly, this is a great deal & it WILL sell out soon. I was planning to share another model that was recently discontinued but it's already sold out.

Option b) You can buy the newest version (not on sale) and use your 20% off coupon (if you're a Co-op member).

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: We own both the Poco Plus (this is the newer version) and the LT. We’ve used them both a TON on day hikes and backcountry camping trips.

👉🏼They serve different purposes, so if you’re debating between the 2 and have questions, send us a message and I’ll do my best to answer them!

5. All REI Co-op Brand Clothing

  • 30% off

There’s so much to love about the REI brand clothing, especially while it's all on sale!

3 items to highlight:

  • Toddler base layer: We just got Juniper these toddler base layers (in blue) & she calls them her “super girl outfit”! We also got her these toddler wool socks.
  • Trailmade hiking pants: I'm buying myself 2 pairs of these hiking pants while they're on major sale. I ordered the green and orange colors (& will see if I want to keep just one or both!).
  • Sahara Shade Hoodies: Ben, Juniper, and I all have this lightweight hiking shirt, which is great for spring and summer adventures (& preventing sunburn). They have versions for the whole family as well as plus sizes!

6. Bogs snow boots

  • 25% off

I bought these exact snow boots last year and they blew my old ones out of the water... err, snow. They keep my toes warm, they're waterproof, and are super comfy. Oh, and the grip is GREAT.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: The pair of boots I used to have is a really good brand and I thought I liked them until I got this new pair. I actually just sold my old ones on Marketplace because I know the these are the only boots I'll be wearing this winter.

7. Garmin InReach Mini 2

  • 25% off

Satellite communication device for off-grid adventuring – an essential if you often hike out of cell signal (and/or are adventuring with kids).

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: We bought this SOS device shortly after Juniper was born because we wanted to always be prepared in case of an emergency. It’s currently on sale, so if you’ve been looking for something similar, now’s the time to jump on it.

8. Big Agnes backpacking tent

  • 30% off

We just got this in the mail and are excited to try it out next summer!

Since we're expecting a little one in January (eeek!), we knew we'd need to upgrade our backpacking tent to accommodate 4 humans next summer. (Our current tent is wonderful but is made for 3.)

I asked on Instagram for tent recs and the overwhelming response was this tent. (I couldn't believe how many people recommended it!) It's super lightweight & easy to put together, so I can see why it has a cult following.

This exact model has actually been discontinued (I assume they're making an updated version), so it is on major sale right now and will likely sell out very soon.

Tip: This is the correct footprint that goes with the tent.

9. Solar lantern

  • 25% off

This lantern folds up flat and basically takes up no space. Hang it on the outside of your backpack or put it on the dash of your car so it can charge in the sunlight. Simply inflate it to light up your campsite or your tent!

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: We've had this solar lantern since 2017 and it's one of our most-used pieces of camping gear. It's really affordable and makes a great gift or stocking stuffer!

There’s more...

Those are our top picks, but there are so many more great deals to check out. We made a round-up of all our favorite items that are on sale + things that are on our personal wish list:

BONUS!!!

In addition to some items being crazy discounted, REI Co-op Members get 20% on one full-price item.

That means even if the piece of gear you've been eyeing isn't currently on sale, now is the time to get it for 20% off! (Also, members get an extra 20% off one already-discounted REI Outlet item.)

Good to know: REI’s 3 biggest sales each year are Memorial Day, Labor Day, and THIS ONE. So this type of sale really doesn't happen often!

Hiking with a toddler packing list

In partnership with REI Co-op, we created a video that goes over the exact items we pack on a day hike with a toddler.

The video was really fun to film & we’d really appreciate any engagement if you feel like leaving a comment 🤗
