I can’t believe we just did that…

Over the weekend, we went on our first backcountry trip with TWO kids.

And I still kind of can’t believe we actually did it!

I have so much to share about it, but first, a quick little plug for a project I’m so excited about…

PNW Map

If you’ve been following our account for any period of time, you probably already know that I’m obsessed with Google Maps!

I pin EVERYTHING.

After living in the Pacific Northwest for 6+ years, I’ve pinned hundreds of the best spots.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been hard at work getting all these pins together to share with you.

Hidden gem restaurants; with notes on what to order – like that crazy amazing salted butterscotch cookie you'll be dreaming about for years (there's a little place in Washington I'm talking about!)

Secret waterfalls that most visitors miss (we've got soooo many good ones!)

Amazing hikes that are worth the effort (complete with trail stats and insider tips)

Campgrounds & unique places to stay (like treehouses & cozy cabins in the woods)

And SO 👏🏼 MUCH 👏🏼 MORE 👏🏼

So far we have 800+ pins in Washington and Oregon (and we’re still pinning more!).

These pins are packed with descriptions, tips, and our personal photos (when we have them!).

This map is already SO GOOD and has taken us literal YEARS of research & on-the-ground scouting to make.

It will be done soon and if you want to be the first to know, be sure join our waitlist!

All people on the waitlist will get a discount code for 10%, plus, there will be a handful of bigger discounts available ;)

Okay, now back to our camping trip...

Backpacking with a toddler AND a baby

I still can't quite believe that we just got back from a backpacking trip with not one – but TWO – kids.

While I grew up camping, Ben and I didn’t really get into backpacking until our early 30’s. And we fell in love with it after the first trip we took.

We decided we didn't want to put this new hobby on pause when we had kids.

So we really made an effort to continue doing it after our oldest daughter was born. She has been backpacking a bunch, but it was still kind of daunting adding a whole other human into the mix.

But like most things that we build up in our heads, it was actually a lot better than I envisioned.

No, we didn’t get the best sleep of our lives.

And yes, it was a lot harder (& heavier) than our backpacking trips were pre-kids.

But there were so many little moments we never would have had when it was just the two of us that made this trip EVEN MORE incredible:

  • ...watching our toddler hike almost the entire trail herself and tell us she was proud of how strong she is 🥹
  • ...waking up next to our 5-month-old and watching her take in her new surroundings with wide eyes
  • ...our 3-year-old told us she had “happy tears” because she got to sleep in her new purple sleeping bag for the first time (anything purple is a hit with her right now!)

It was pretty cool getting a glimpse into what adventures will look like as a family of FOUR.

Harder? Yes.

More planning? Uh huh.

More gear? Duh.

But also so, incredibly sweet and worth it.

If you’ve been wanting to go camping with littles (or know someone who has!), this is your sign to get out there and make those core memories.

Let us know if you have questions and we’ll do our best to help!

On that note, we’ve gotten a lot of messages asking about our gear.

So I made a round up of what we packed.

Our Current Obsession: Trail Magik

Not included on the list above is our beloved Trail Magik.

This is a super lightweight carrier that is pretty much the only way we can go on a backpacking trip with a toddler.

It allows us to carry our 3-year-old when needed, but stashes up so tiny that it hardly adds any weight.

Psst! These super handy carriers are currently on sale for 20% off, so now is the perfect time to snag one!

Wander on,

What if the hard part was already done?

All you have to do is pack your bags!

Thank you so much for following along; we appreciate it more than you know!
