my newest obsession + MADEIRA Itinerary!!!

We are in FULL FALL MODE over here, soaking up our favorite season of the year!

Pumpkin carving, leaf crafts, cinnamon candles, spooky movies, the good candles.

You know the drill.

What are your favorite fall traditions?

Speaking of fall, I’m pretty excited for our Halloween costumes this year.

Ever since the day after last Halloween, Juniper has known what she wants to dress as this year.

I thought for sure she’d change her mind because she had about 47 ideas for last year's costume. (Anyone remember this suuuper cute video?!)

But no changing her mind this year.

So we’re going with it! She chose the rest of the family’s costumes too!

Hint: The person she is dressing as has thousands of "employees"...

Any guesses?

Do you dress up for Halloween? What are you going as?

On a totally unrelated note:

Our Madeira itinerary is HERE!

We had the best time exploring this Portuguese island.

We ate the best food.

Hiked incredible (& very unique!) trails.

And saw some landscapes that are hard to believe exist in real life.

If Madeira is on your bucket list, this itinerary is the perfect way to plan your trip.

Plus, traveling here was very different than mainland Portugal. In fact, it was unlike anywhere else we’ve ever traveled.

So we’re sharing all sorts of tips and things we wish we had known so your trip goes as smoothly as possible.

Psst! If you already pre-purchased our Madeira itinerary, it should have been sent to your inbox last week (let me know if you’re having any trouble locating it!).

Current Obsession: Pear Dumplings 🍐

If you’re looking for a super simple fall dessert, this is IT.

There’s a little shop in Hood River, Oregon that we go to in the fall that has these amazing pear dumplings.

Well, when we stopped there in mid-September, they told us that they weren’t serving them yet (apparently it was too early in the season?!).

I was bummed and craving the other day so I decided to try making them…

How hard can it be?

Turns out, not hard at all!

And they’re so I’ve already made them 3 times and I don't plan to stop making them anytime soon!

The best thing is they are so simple and have just a handful of ingredients. (In fact, you could just use the first 2 ingredients & omit the rest and it would still be super delicious!)

🍐 Katie's Baked Pear Dumplings

Ingredients & directions:

  • ripe Bartlett pear
  • crescent roll dough
  • maple syrup
  • cinnamon
  • vanilla ice cream
  1. Wrap 1 Bartlett pear in 1 triangle of crescent roll dough.
  2. Drizzle 1 Tbsp of maple on top.
  3. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  4. Bake at 375ºF for 15 minutes, or until the dough turns golden brown.
  5. Serve with a scoop of ice cream.

🔥 Tip: It's best to use parchment paper or a baking mat like this. If you got maple syrup on the pan, it'll get caramelized and crispy, which is perfect for putting on top of the ice cream! (see the picture)

Note: I don't core it first because pear cores are so small and I just eat around it but you could take it out first.

It's seriously so good! Let me know if you make them!

Wander on,

What if the hard part was already done?

All you have to do is pack your bags!

Thank you so much for following along; we appreciate it more than you know!
